Archive NewsBBA CERTIFICATE HOLDER LAUNCHES INSTALLER SCHEME (06 March 2007)
Excel Building Solutions has launched an installer assurance scheme, monitored by the BBA for its Warmcel installers. BBA inspectors will carry out stringent, random checks to ensure the Excel trained installers are offering a consistently first-rate service.
Excel has developed the new scheme with the backing of its registered installers to ensure the work will be carried out by a qualified individual. The aim of the scheme is to provide a way of monitoring the performance of Warmcel installers and to ensure that they continue to meet the standards of service and application.
As members of the scheme, Warmcel installers will be subject to head office audits and accompanied site inspections carried out by trained BBA surveyors. The inspections will begin this month, although the scheme has been in operation from the beginning of the year. Anyone who is found to have fallen below the required standard will immediately have to complete further training with Excel or be removed from the official list of Warmcel installers.
Warmcel (covered by Certificate No 94/3027) is a cellulose fibre insulation and is created using a purely mechanical process, transforming recycled newspaper back into its raw fibrous state, suitable for use as building insulation.
The BBA is delighted to be working on this project with Certificate holder Warmcel and the new scheme is the latest in a number of BBA inspections schemes in the industry. This development of its inspection operation, headed up by Operations Director, Martyn Reed, is a key part of the BBA’s business growth plains. Our successful scheme for installers of injected cavity wall insulation systems led to our work in the FENSA scheme, the most successful of the Competent Persons Schemes authorised by the then ODPM in 2002, and schemes are underway with conservatory roof manufacturer Ultraframe and under development with other Certificate holders and organisations.
ECLIPSE LAUNCHES COMPLETE RANGE OF A TO E ENERGY-RATED WINDOWS
(06 March 2007)
The Window Energy Rating (WER) scheme run by the British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC) gathered further momentum with the latest news that Profile 22 fabricator Eclipse Trade Frames is now offering installers the complete range of A to E energy-rated windows, with BFRC ratings confirmed by the BBA.
Owner of Eclipse Trade Frames, Bill Blunden is delighted with the result: 'We recognised the huge sales and marketing potential of Window Energy Ratings early on, and since then have been working closely with suppliers like Profile 22 and Edgetech to achieve the whole spectrum of ratings across our windows. It's important for trade fabricators to offer installers both choice and the ability to differentiate themselves from other window companies selling in the home.’
'We believe this latest development allows our customers to do just this. We launched the A to E range at a workshop in late December and early feedback from customers was enthusiastic. We can now offer home-owners a choice of environmentally friendly, energy and utility cost-saving windows from a range of A to E to suit their individual budget. By working closely with suppliers this has ensured even our A-rated window is cost effective, so when properly marketed our customers can sell added value product to improve their bottom line.’
HARGREAVES RECEIVE CAST-IRON APPROVAL
(06 March 2007)
Hargreaves Foundry Drainage Ltd, which has been operating in Halifax since 1896, is celebrating the successful achievement of BBA accreditation for their brand-new product range, a cast-iron drainage system.
The Halifax Cast Iron Soil System (Certificate No 06/4401) consists of cast-iron pipework and fittings and chrome steel couplings incorporating EPDM gaskets. The system is for use in domestic, commercial and public buildings for the conveyance of water and domestic sewage.
Michael Hinchliffe, Managing Director of Hargreaves, said: ‘We are delighted with this achievement. There are a lot of people, both here in Halifax and in our Shanghai and Moscow offices, who have worked hard on the design, development and production of the Halifax range’.
‘Our first priority will be to establish the Halifax System in the UK and Ireland, distributing nationally through merchants’. He also added: ‘the success of this product range will provide real growth for Hargreaves. It has been something of an international collaboration so far, but UK operations will remain here in Halifax and hopefully lead to an increase in local jobs’.
