In certain key product areas, where the adequacy of an installation cannot be assessed easily by a Site Supervisor, Clerk of Works or Building Control Officer, the BBA operates Approved Installer Schemes. The principal scheme covers installers of injected cavity wall insulation, which is, in common with the other schemes, monitored by the BBA's trained and experienced inspection staff.
Installing firms are inspected both for on-site practices and office procedures and are assessed for competence and compliance with documented technical specifications, including the relevant Agrément Certificate for the insulation product itself.
The BBA’s experience in installer approval made the provision of similar services to the new self-certification schemes under the Building Regulations in England & Wales a logical development.
The BBA provides inspection services to underpin the FENSA scheme covering the replacement of windows and doors.
The BBA carries out inspections of completed and in progress installations throughout the country with our own team of dedicated inspectors. The work undertaken by BBA in support of FENSA was highlighted in our report to the Building Regulations Advisory Committee as being exemplary in the context of self-certification schemes.
As well as its own Approved Installer schemes, the BBA also works with a number of Certificate holders who operate their own approved contractor schemes. In these cases the BBA inspects the contractors to ensure they are installing the relevant product properly. These are not BBA schemes and contractors cannot use the BBA logo.
