Agrément Certificates

The BBA Agrément Certificate was first issued by us in 1966 and since then it has become the most reliable way for a manufacturer’s new product or system to gain quick acceptance in the market place. Only products and systems that have passed a series of comprehensive assessments – including laboratory tests, on-site evaluations, quality management checks and inspections of production are awarded a BBA Agrément Certificate.


BBA Certification is a respected and credible way for manufacturers to demonstrate to their clients, specifiers, architects and designers that their products have been assessed and tested thoroughly. The BBA brand is recognised throughout the world and is known to be independent, rigorous and trusted.

Our Certificates are awarded only after a product or system has passed a series of comprehensive assessments, including laboratory tests, on-site evaluations, quality management checks and inspections of production. The journey to meeting our assessment requirements can be tough and exacting, but at the end of it our clients can be confident that their product performance claims are backed up by the BBA’s reputation and expertise.

To achieve a BBA Agrement Certificate, manufacturers must first undertake the following:

Laboratory tests

Products are required to undergo rigorous tests at UKAS accredited testing facilities - such as our state-of-the-art testing centre based in Watford. These tests are done to ensure that the product being certified is fit-for-purpose based on the parameters given by the manufacturer.

Inspections of production and on-site evaluations

BBA inspectors visit factories and construction sites to evaluate the product development process and assess the functionality of the product/system on site. This ensures that the manufacturing and storage is consistent with building regulations and guidelines. 

A reliable set of quality management checks

The BBA constantly scrutinises its management operations as part of our commitment to technical excellence and delivering the highest service standards to clients.

As well as BBA Agrément, we offer various other initiatives and schemes that make up our extensive range of Certification services. These Certificates have been created to help manufacturers demonstrate to architects, designers and specifiers that the products being used for construction projects match the required specification.

Products that receive BBA Agrément Certificates are recognised by building control and government departments as meeting the BBA's standards of quality, safety and reliability; providing them with reassurance of the product's fitness for purpose. For new construction products it is vital to achieve this certification if they are to gain a quick route to the marketplace.

Once a Certificate has been awarded, a regular 6-monthly inspection by a BBA Management Systems Auditor is carried out to maintain the Certificate’s validity. In addition to this bi-annual review program the BBA will now physically test products either annually or triennially as part of our Product Excellence Programme (PEP).
